The exact construction date of this mosque is not known, however the maintenance record book, dated 1210, show that it is a very old building. It was possibly built around 1150 and is Gaziantep's oldest mosque.
The building took its present shape in 1786, but there is another maintenance record book dated 1850. The mosque's main entrance door and "mihrab" (prayer niche) are adorned with black and white stones. In the courtyard, black, white and pink cut-stones have been used in a decorative design. The minaret gallery is closed, and on the body of the minaret itself, bullet marks from the city's struggle in Turkey's War of Independence can be seen.
