First built as a "mescit" (place of prayer) in the 17th century, this building was turned into a mosque in 1688. It is also known as the Kozanoğlu Mosque.
The mosque is rectangular in design, divided transversely into two parts, each running parallel to the "kiblah" (direction of Mecca). Two buttresses in the centre divide the interior into six spaces with cross vaults rising above each space. The "mihrab" (prayer niche) is in the form of a niche having a pointed arch and a muqarnas (a type of corbel employed as a decorative device in traditional Islamic architecture). Inside the mosque, there is a women's pew that was later separated from the main area by a wooden partition. The praying portico has a flat ceiling supported by three pointed arches. The area in front of the portico and the courtyard are paved with black and white stones laid out in geometric patterns. The minaret is actually rising from inside the mosque. The section of the minaret below the gallery is of cut stone, while that above the gallery has decorative grooves. The gallery balustrade is made of stone slabs. There is a "muqarnas" (a type of corbel used as a decorative device in traditional Islamic architecture) beneath the gallery, below which can be seen the marks left by fallen ceramic tiles.
