The present structure is thought to date from the 19th Century. It is also known by other names, such as the "Ekiz Mescidi" and the "Ekizoğlu Mescidi".
It was first built as a "mescit" (place of prayer) in 1593, and was transformed into a mosque in 1724. The mosque was rebuilt in 1861, using donations from the people spearheaded by Gözükara Memik. Having been damaged during the French occupation, the mosque was repaired again after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. The original structure is said to have been built by Hadji Mustafa.
