The mosque was built during the reign of the last Dulkadiroðlu Bey, Alauddevle Bozkurt Bey, between the years 1479-1550. The exact year of construction is not known. Today, only the minaret remains from the original mosque. The present mosque was built between the years 1903-1909 using voluntary donations from local people. These donations were not sufficient to build the dome, so financial help was sought from Sultan Abdülhamit.
The architect Armenak, and the master builder Kirkor, were assisted during the construction period by volunteers from Gaziantep's 32 districts. The building is also known locally as Ali Dola Mosque, a derivative of Alauddevle.
